Freshly baked cakes and tarts at Maître Münch

Hidden not far away from the S-Bahn station Charlottenburg is Café Maître Münch, named after the owner Gerhard Münch. Everything inside is in various shades of lilac and it smells of freshly baked cakes and tarts. Their breakfast is rich - cheese, meat and everything else plus a piece of cake afterwards. Wunderbar.

Tasty breads and toppings at Die Stulle

A culinary classic in Berlin - the Stulle (a slice of bread with butter and toppings) - is commemorated in the same-named café at Savignyplatz. The good old buttered bread is revamped into a full-fledged, burger-like meal with lots of creativity and choice ingredients – that tastes twice as good in the comfortable living room vibe of the place.

Café in der Königlichen Gartenakademie

More idyllic and palatial isn't possible: next to the botanical gardens is the Königliche Gartenakademie (royal garden academy) and next to that is a café in a greenhouse-style building – how fitting! The café offers brunch every Sunday, which you should definitely reserve for.

  • Königliche Gartenakademie Altensteinstraße 15a, 14195 Berlin
  • Tuesday – Saturday: 10am – 5.30pm, Sunday: 10am – 5pm (October until March), Tuesday – Saturday: 10am – 7pm, Sunday: 10am – 4pm (April until September)

Russian food at Café Datscha

The Datscha, with its Russian decor and sitting areas with their nooks and crannies is not only incredibly comfy, but you can also get Borschtsch, excellent homemade Wareniki, or one of 15 different kinds of Vodka – for example with honey, pepper or pine nuts. The Sunday brunch guests squeeze in as tightly as the dwellers of a soviet kommunalka.

Tasty sandwiches and smoothies at Cozys

At Cozys, right at Boxi (Boxhagener Platz), you can fill up on tasty sandwiches, amazing coffee or a smoothie to energise yourself for the day before your trip to the flea market. Silo, around the corner, is also a comfortable place, but at Cozys it's not quite as full. Throw in a piece of homemade cake and its a done deal.

Köpenick

6
Breakfast and cakes at Milchkaffee

Milchkaffee in Köpenick's old town is one of those breakfast cafés that you'd like to live above so you can comfortably sit sipping at your regular's table in your pajamas. They have everything that the sleepy morning heart desires: from tasty fruit salad with yogurt to savory cheesy breakfast with homemade spreads and their own baked bread rolls. The people who run Milchkaffee are always in the best mood and focus on regional ingredients and organic produce. They also work magic with their heavenly cherry crumble cake and all sorts of other treats.

Granola pancakes with carmelized bananas at Le Bon

Brunching from Tuesday till Sunday sounds pretty damn good, doesn't it? Then off to Le Bon in Kreuzberg to feast all day. This is the perfect place for savory gourmets and people with a sweet tooth. Let us just say: granola pancakes with carmelized bananas, jam, chili-chocolate almond butter, maple syrup and vanilla cream. Maybe add a bloody mary to kick the hangover and tadaa! A perfect Sunday brunch.

  • Le Bon Boppstraße 1, 10967 Berlin

Home-baked bread in a historical ambience at ORA

We're infatuated with ORA. The rooms of the café housed an apothecary for 150 years, where even the king himself ordered medicine. The store closed in 2013 and was empty since then - until ORA, and therefore the probably loveliest café in Berlin, opened in April. Luckily the old interior of the apothecary was preserved and renovated so that you can eat weekly, changing dishes and home-baked bread in a historical ambience. The evening visit is worth it too, when they mix cocktails and the shop counter turns into a dim bar.

Pancakes and Granola at Distrikt Coffee

Distrikt Coffee on Bergstraße in Mitte isn't a secret anymore, but it's still one of the nicest cafés between Invalidenstraße and Torstraße. A modest, wood interior, a bit of industrial style of course, coffee as art. The food here is not only photogenic, but also very tasty. Pancakes, granola, ham and cheese toasties, yum.

Japanese-European fusion cuisine at House of Small Wonder

House of Small Wonder is, just as the name implies, a little wonderland right on bustling Friedrichstraße.
Everything here is magical: the Japanese-European fusion cuisine, the green coffees, the design, the staff. Order everything from the breakfast menu and stay until it shuts.

Animal-free feasts at Geh Veg

The vegan café Geh Veg has been an outstanding place for animal-free feasts for the last year and a half. They have especially fantastic breakfasts (couscous, homemade spreads, fruit), smoothies, coffee with three different milk drinks, bagels, cake, muffins, salads, wraps and (cucumber!) ice cream. Great place!

12
Creamy bircher müsli and vegan breakfast at Tirrée

Tirrée on Birkenstraße opened its doors in 2013 as a little art bar, took over the space next door and is now one of the loveliest little breakfast cafés in Moabit. Everything is homemade here – the tasty, super creamy bircher müsli, the vegan breakfast platters or the casseroles. You can drink a coffee or warm juices in different variations and play games with your friends – there are plenty in the back room.

Fluffy pancakes and home-baked bread at Hallmann & Klee

Hallmann & Klee at Böhmischer Platz is galantly on the list of pretty Berlin cafés with the Instagram look. It's especially jam-packed on the weekend. This is predominantly because of the good food, the home-baked bread and the beautiful cutlery. The little, fluffy pancakes with berry jam, maple syrup and cream are especially popular with the foodies – and naturally with us as well.

Italian-Turkish food at iBarini

Berlin is surely the only place where you can find an Italian-Turkish restaurant. At Barini on Böhmische Straße they have bread rolls, meat, cheese and butter as well as bulgur, pickled vegetables and everything else that Italian-Turkish cuisine has to offer. Find out for yourself!

Eat breakfast on tables right on the water at Nah am Wasser

You can find this little jewel right across from Zimt & Mehl. Unplastered walls, lots of wood, lots of atmosphere and, as the name betrays, tables right on the water. What's especially great: you can get different breakfast platters here for two or more people and there is a wooden swing inside.

Drink coffee at Milchmanns

We admit it: we still haven't represented Pankow enough – which we want to change with this recommendation. At the beautiful, light Milchmanns you can breakfast extensively and drink coffee for hours – and use the pretty café as a starting point for a lengthy stroll discovering Pankow.

Homemade breads at Suicide Sue

At Suicide Sue all the spreads are homemade and they really know their breads. There's always a lot going on here on the – when all the friends of breakfast boards make their journey here. The only thing that helps is to reserve beforehand, turn up on the dot or drop in later for coffee and cake. But we don't really understand why Sue would want to commit suicide.

Huge breakfast plates at Café Hubert Geschlossen

Hubert, in Wedding, could be stylistically pinned down somewhere between a tree house and a café – it teems with chummy comfort. The breakfast plates are full of good products – no sad slices of cheese here. If you want, order some french toast as well and then go for an after-breakfast walk. Wedding made it long ago.
